First Visit

Dr. Melissa Mariani, Dr. Naimisha Shah Hoffman, and Dr. Ashley Papesh Place are thrilled that you have considered our practice for your oral health. We understand the trust you have placed in our capable hands and consider it an honor. Please note that we reserve two hours for your initial visit so we can do a thorough evaluation of your treatment needs.

We will begin your initial appointment in a private consultation room setting. This will be a prompt meeting to review your medical and dental history and address any questions you may have in a confidential and relaxed surrounding.

The examination portion involves a thorough review of your mouth and head and neck area. It includes but is not limited to:

  • Tooth Exam and Charting
  • Oral Cancer Screening
  • Periodontal (Gum and Bone) Examination
  • Radiographs (Xrays) if necessary
  • Evaluation of Occlusion
  • Soft Tissue Exam of Head and Neck Area

Dental Cleaning

The dental terminology for a cleaning is prophylaxis. Did you know that the word prophylaxis actually means “the prevention of disease”? A dental cleaning is done to prevent periodontal disease – the disease that affects the hard and soft tissue that holds the teeth in the jaw bone. The evaluation that includes measuring the spaces between the teeth and gums as well as the xrays, will allow us to diagnose the correct path we will need to take to prevent disease. If it has been a while since your last dental visit or you notice bleeding when brushing or flossing, you may require more than a prophylaxis.
