Questions &Answers

What do you need to know about tooth extraction?

Your smile is unique – which is why we’ll take the time to build the best care path for you.

When are tooth extractions needed?

Tooth extractions are needed when a tooth cannot be restored, their position is negatively impacting other teeth, or you’re getting ready for orthodontic treatment.

What are my options for replacing my tooth?

Before we begin extraction we’ll discuss restorative options like bridges and implants to replace your tooth.

Are tooth extractions painful?

They can actually help relieve pain by removing troubled teeth. The actual procedure can be uncomfortable and result in swelling or pain, but most patients return to their full normal life after about 48 hours.

What can I expect during my tooth extraction visit?

We first numb your tooth and gums so you are comfortable during the procedure. You’ll feel pressure without pain as we remove the tooth. Afterwards you’ll have to bite on a gauze pad for 30-45 minutes until the bleeding stops and the healing begins.

How many appointments will this take?

Everyone is different in how long it can take to heal, however we will review medication and other ways to help lessen any discomfort or swelling after a tooth is extracted.

How long is the healing process?

You will experience some pain and swelling after the tooth is extracted. Ice and pain medication as directed can help.

Can I eat normally after an extraction?

For the first two days while the wound is healing we highly recommend eating soft foods, drinking plenty of water, and avoiding alcohol. Following this will help your mouth to heal quicker and with reduced risk of infection.
